In August 2011, with grant funding from the Bay Area Air Quality Management District, the City of Alameda launched a free shuttle service between Alameda and Laney College/Lake Merritt BART in Oakland. The shuttle seats 19 and has space for 12 bicycles, significantly increasing the bicycle-carrying capacity through the tube that has been provided by AC Transit’s Line 51 for many years. The shuttle stops at three locations in Alameda, and operates at 30 minute intervals weekdays from 7:00 am to 12:07 pm and 3:30 pm to 6:30 pm.
