Why do I as a driver have to suffer? Why do I have to lose 20 PARKING SPOTS for 4 STATIONS within a 2 block radius. Why cant these be on the sidewalk and not take away precious parking spots. Is my 68 year old Dad who does construction supposed to take his tools on a bike? Is my 59 year old mother who is a teacher suppoed to take all her books and paperwork on a bike? I hope people steal and vandalize these bikes.
Dear Ms. Louise: perhaps you should be more upset about the parking spaces lost to more than 23,000 (pedestrian-friendly) curb cuts over the past four years (all of which help your aging parent cross the street more safely); or even more upset about all the free parking given away via the 78,000 city-issued parking placards. Both of these take up many, many more spaces than will be taken by the roughly 600 spots to be devoted to Citibike stations. Or perhaps you should consider that those 600 car parking spots to be “lost” will yield parking for more than 5,000 bikes. Or perhaps you can continue to be self-centered in a city of 7,000,000 people, and think that it ultimately is all about you.
