those middle lines with a bike symbol at intersections are bike detectors! 

like those circle things that detect heavy car metal to change the traffic signal.

(i’ve ridden though some in oakland recently, and noticed that they’re included in preliminary lane striping for new bike lanes. but just thought they were to remind cyclists to position themselves in the bike lane..)

i’m gonna be pessimistic and say that san diego won’t get ‘em for a far while.
bike boxes and bike signals, too. :P unless i can do something about it..
