cycling home last night via International Blvd. in Oakland, my friend and I taking the whole right lane—it’s a two lane each way street.
hear a guy in the passenger seat yell at us out of the window as they finally decide to take the left lane and whizz pass us: “[something something] the whole lane!”
I yell back “We ARE taking the whole lane!”
immediately after which I realize i missed the beginning of the sentence where the guy was probably complaining about us doing exactly that, lol.
so I yell louder (as they are now farther away) “YOU’RE TAKING A WHOLE LANE!!”
c’mon guys, some common sense please: two people in a car taking up one whole lane vs. two people on two bikes taking up one whole lane. about the same thing except one’s heavier, takes up more space, is more taxing on the road surface and polluting; the other lighter, more efficient, and clean.
at the red traffic light I wanted to repeat that in case they didn’t hear, but the passenger window was rolled up. driver probably wanted his friend to shut up and avoid getting a u-lock to the window. :P
