turn that tap off!

I’m at my fave cafe again, reading SPUR’s report on the future of the Bay Area’s water supply, and I remember…

Freshman year at ucsd, holy shit I was so surprised and disgusted with the girls on my floor’s water usage.

most girls were from socal, LA area. and they’d be brushing their teeth or washing their face with both hands, and THEY’D LEAVE THE TAP RUNNING. while they aren’t even touching the running water.

so if I were there I’d turn it off for them.

one girl from LA said it’s totally okay because we’re not going to run out of water—in the future there would be desalination so we can use ocean water.

holy f—- you serious
that shit is gonna be hella expensive. It’s way cheaper and easier to conserve water now so it wouldn’t be as difficult and costly to meet demand in the future, esp. with the effects of climate change.

it only takes a quick flick of the wrist to turn the water off!!

and then especially in socal, where water is supplied from faraway norcal and the colorado river.

I’d never want to live in dorms again and be daily pissed off by the unawarely and unashamedly bad behavior of others.

wish there was more environmental education in early schooling to prevent behavior like this. I know I’m kinda privileged in that I attended an elementary school named after John Muir, with a creek in the back, learning about composting, etc.. Other schools all over need to teach more about nature—where our food comes from, where our water comes from.. then we wouldn’t have these college kids with bad, wasteful habits that they continue to bring along into adulthood.

i totally know the answer to that!!!
and of course this facebook group will even write your whole thesis for you!!
not.
finished college

yeeeah finally.

very certain I passed my last three classes in a crammed summer session these last five weeks..

now I can bum around reading more articles and tumblogging even more! ;P

anyway, find me at Oakland’s Art & Soul Festival tomorrow

or at SF Sunday Streets in the Mission if you’re in the Bay! (yeea tumblr meet-up! lol)

» more hit-and-runs in san diego

Last Friday night a fellow rider, Andy, was a victim of a hit and run collision. The collision happened on the 3500 block of Nimitz Boulevard at around 11:30 pm, according to NBC San Diego. The 50 year old was pedaling north in the 3500 block of Nimitz Boulevard when he was struck. As of now, Andy appears to be in critical condition and the driver and his passenger who struck Andy still remain at large. The vehicle that struck Andy is a white Hyundai and the suspects are described as having, “short, dark hair and light skin”

If you have any information contact the SDPD.

errehh

another hit and run that occurred earlier this year on March 11.The victim, a student named Sho Funai, was killed by a driver who later turned herself in. Despite pleading guilty to striking Funai and admitting to being under the influence of drugs and alcohol, the THEN 18 YEAR OLD driver may only be charged with probation. In response to the verdict, Funai’s friends appalled at the ruling have started an online petition to demand justice for the death of Funai.

:(

Sho Funai was an excellent student at UCSD, BS and Masters in structural engineering… read more on the petition.

Improving the public realm in Little Italy, San Diego

another assignment for my urban design practicum.

How will you create an active, public realm at the case study site? (see preliminary concept map drawn up after writing this.)

Little Italy is a lively little neighborhood in San Diego. It is relatively pedestrian-oriented compared to other communities in the city, and hosts several street festivals every year. Much can still be improved, however, to create a more active, public realm in the historic neighborhood. I suggest implementing “complete streets”, pedestrianizing a strip of India Street, and displaying more public art to create a more human scale street environment.

i hate when people don’t recycle their cardboard coffee cup sleeves

UCSD students, and general public, can you really be that idiotic and lazy

  • do you not realise that cardboard is paper is recyclable
  • and that the sleeve is detachable from the to-go coffee cup
  • and also did you never notice the triangle recycle imprint on the plastic lid

yes, i took off the cardboard sleeves from three empty coffee cups in the trash and threw them into the recycling bin right next to the trash can.

even better, reuse the sleeves! (even though there’s a warning printed on them saying not to)

very multi-modal and ped-friendly. TOD, bridges, and more.

i should’ve taken the photo after we wrote the “presented by/for” line, though.
