New GREEN BIKE LANE in downtown San Diego!
that’s a FIRST in san diego!!!
it only took a couple people to be killed, but finally some paint and plastic pylons are on the ground!
however, there’s no dashed green paint (the second pic) for the “conflict zone” (WHICH COULD HAVE BEEN DESIGNED AWAY, by the way), and that worries me. it’s similar to the current Market St. “clusterfuck” in SF where you’re in the protected bike lane, but then you have to merge out to the left lane so drivers can get into the right turn-only lane.

but in all seriousness, the no turn for cars while bikes and peds are crossing the street is great. you feel no stress to walk faster nor danger of a car trying wedge its way behind you before you even reach the curb.
dearborn two-way bike lane.
jamisonwieser:

Just in time for today’s annual bike to work day in San Francisco, the SFMTA has installed bike lanes on Oak Street, filling a three block gap in a route that runs from the ocean to the bay.
Even though the gap has meant upwards of 1,500 cyclists per day sharing a lane — not always successfully — with traffic running 40 miles per hour on the one-way street, the SFMTA had resisted making bike safety improvements in order to preserve all three traffic lanes as well as the two lanes of free parking on the either side of the street.
Dedicating a single lane of traffic on just one of the dozens of east-west streets is not an unreasonable request.

» Two-Way Cycle Track Around Cal Campus??!!!

SafeTREC has released the Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Strategies for UC Berkeley Campus and Periphery (PDF), a report that suggests the start of a two-way cycle track around the UC Berkeley campus, amongst other good improvements for bicycling and walking. We think it is a good idea-in fact, we first suggested it!

The two-way cycle track proposed in the SafeTREC Report are for these segments around the periphery of campus:

  • Oxford Street: from Bancroft Way to Hearst
  • Bancroft Way: from Oxford up to Dana
  • Bancroft Way: Telegraph Ave up to Barrows Lane
  • Bancroft Way: Bowditch to the path between tennis courts and gymnasium

Parking can be maintained around the cycle track by removing a lane of traffic, which will also significantly increase pedestrian safety for people crossing the streets with a cycle track.

that would be awesome!! (also, bancroft way is where a screw got into my rear tire. so any repaving and improvements would be great.)

5% of every purchase of a pint of the new flavor will go to support a new bike lane feasibility study for Park Slope.
